Do I have to replace my existing door or lock?
Usually not the whole thing. Many doors take a motor lock or a smart-cylinder solution that goes in place of, or alongside, the existing lock without replacing the door. Gates, cabinets and shared entrances have their own modules that add on without much building work. We look first at what you already have and recommend a replacement only where the old lock is genuinely too old or cannot be automated. The practical advice is to start with the front door and one or two places where the key handover currently eats the most time, then expand once the system is working — because by then the network and app are already in place.
What happens during a power cut or internet outage?
The locks are built so that a loss of signal or power never leaves anyone standing outside. Codes and valid keys live in the lock’s own memory, so they keep working even when the internet is down for a moment — remote control and sharing new keys simply wait for the connection to return. The locks run on batteries whose life you can see ahead of time in the app and which warn you long before anything happens; there is also a physical backup for emergency opening. We deliberately do not build access purely on the cloud, precisely because a door that needs the internet to work leaves you stranded on exactly the night the internet is down.
How secure is a digital key compared with a physical one?
More secure, mainly because a physical key’s biggest weakness is copying. A physical key can be duplicated, lost or passed on without your ever knowing; a digital key works only for a set window, is tied to a specific booking or person, and leaves a trace of every use. If something goes wrong, you revoke the right in an instant instead of changing a cylinder. The communication is encrypted and each key stands on its own, so one leaked code does not open other doors. The net effect is that you always know who has access and for how long — something a ring of physical keys never tells you.
Does this work for an apartment building or shared entrances?
Yes, and that is often where the benefit is largest. Access to the front door, stairwell, storage and shared rooms can be given with a time-limited digital key, so each tenant or guest has exactly their own access and every entry lands in the log. Keys can be granted and revoked remotely, with nobody ordering new keys or rekeying the whole building because one key went missing. For a manager it means seeing several doors and several buildings from one place, and that a departing tenant’s access is never left active by accident. For shared spaces you usually agree separately on who may hand out keys and who sees the log.
